NZ Breakers vs Perth Wildcats Game Preview:

Tom Abercrombie leads New Zealand in blocks and his rebounding allows them to use a smaller frontcourt. But he collected just two rebounds in Game 2 due to his proppy ankle.

Damian Martin is Perth's leading rebounder and is second in blocks. But after grabbing two boards in the first three minutes, Martin elevated for just three more the rest of the game after hurting his ankle, one being a crucial offensive board in the final 90 seconds.

Matt Knight received eight low-post touches and scored nine points on 4-of-5 field-goal shooting. Neither Gary Wilkinson or Alex Pledger could stop him – the Wildcats need to get Knight more of the ball.

In contrast, Wilkinson scored 10 points on jumpers against Nevill, beat Knight down the floor twice for lay-ups and scored twice on drives against the zone. Open shots dried up in the final quarter, however, and the Breakers failed to utilise Wilkinson in the post.

Nevill started the game with two jump-shots and an alley-oop. He missed an inside hook later in the first term and then didn’t see the ball inside until the third quarter. That resulted in a basket, while his only deep inside touch in the final term led to a dunk.

Alex Pledger picked up four fouls, three of which could have gone either way, but in his 11 minutes he scored three baskets diving to the hoop from the high post, while making all four of his free throws to be 15-of-16 in the playoffs.

In Game 1, New Zealand got 23 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and just three turnovers from Mika Vukona and Dillon Boucher. In Game 2 that dropped to six points, four rebounds, four assists and eight turnovers.

In contrast, Cam Tovey and Greg Hire gave Perth 12 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and three turnovers. Odds are the team that gets the most assists and rebounds out of their "non-shooters” will prevail, while the Breakers need to get Vukona more low-post and pick-and-roll touches, à la Game 1.
