On the back of a Friday night road-triumph, the Cairns Taipans return home, where they are undefeated (9-0), for a test of their strength and dominance against the league-leading New Zealand Breakers on Sunday afternoon.

The Taipans pushed aside the Wollongong Hawks when the going got tough on Friday and on the back of an outstanding fourth quarter from Alex Loughton, the Taipans picked up their second road victory of the season.
Loughton was sensational, as was young gun Daniel Dillon. Dillon had a career-high 18 points and also continued to impress on the defensive end. The Taipans, who have now created a little bit of breathing room in third spot as the Hawks continue to fall further and further out of contention, would like to wake up on Monday morning with a bit more of a buffer if possible.
And the Taipans will only achieve that if they can knock off the Breakers. The Breakers have continued to be the most impressive team in the NBL this season, and continue to sit atop the standings with a view every other team is jealous of.
The Breakers have conquered the Taipans twice this season. Both games were played in New Zealand, and on both occasions the Taipans were left to ponder what may have been. The Taipans know now, as if they needed to be reminded, that you can’t give the Breakers a chance or allow them to be within striking distance.
This is a huge test for the Taipans - the Breakers are coming off a long lay-off, and may have some rust early on in the game, and the Taipans will need to be switched on from the tip to take advantage.
